I'm not religious, I'm a Christian

A lot of people when they discover that I go to church, or pray, or read the bible say to me,

"Oh, so you're religious?"

To which I mostly respond, "hmm, yeah, sort of..."

'Religious' is a word that the world uses synonymously with Christianity, but it isn't! Religion was invented by humans to give structure to faith by introducing rituals, sacraments, riles, creeds, declarations yada yada... In its purest form, Religion is the act of following the life, works and God-in-human-form nature of Jesus and applying it to our lives.

Jesus's aim when he entered the world was not to create a religion, it was foremost to get rid of the separation between us and God, but also to show us how practically, as humans, we can learn to be more God-like.

Christianity is not a religion.

Being a Christian is to follow the teaching and life of Jesus, and apply it directly to our lives.

Aspects of religion will help us to do that, don't get me wrong! Going to church every week, reading our bibles every day, praying every day, taking part in communion every month or whatever, but fundamentally our aim is to be more like Christ every day.
